Corrigan + Igby-Potter

January 30, 2008

~ I was so engrossed in Jimmy Corrigan, Smartest Kid on Earth last night I missed five subways stops on the way home.

~ Last week a guy said to me on the subway, timed to be as I was getting off, “Is that an official Harry Potter scarf?” My reply was, “Uh. No.” He then said, looking down and to the side, unable to make eye contact apparently, “There’s no Hogwarts logo on it?” I explained it was “hand-made” and then got off the train.

Then yesterday I was riding the elevator with a very posh looking young man who said, “Awesome Harry Potter scarf.” I tried to explain I intended it to be an Igby Goes Down scarf, but he had no idea what I was talking about. He claimed he only knew what a Harry Potter scarf was because of his son, which i doubted. But then he must spend so much time on his hair every day he wouldn’t have much time to watch movies. It was some seriously impressively coiffed hair.

Doppelganger update :  Celebrity edition

Schizophrenic (or cracked out) Master T on the bus laughing like a maniac and beatboxing kitchen appliance sounds.

Gandhi – looks like he’s gone back to his law practice and is doing quite well wearing Armani.

~  Somehow I designed the 53 Mondays booklets to the wrong size. Not even a standard wrong size, but an entirely unique wrong size. I wondered why the six point font was looking so huge on the page on screen. I remedied the problem but it added a day to the production schedule.

~ Nicole and I went on our first ever movie date yesterday. We saw Into The Wild which was quite good. Though I hope Matt-O doesn’t see ti because I fear it’d give him some dodgy ideas.

~ Had an amazing burrito last night from a Colombian restaurant down the street from out house. I’m still digesting it. It was huge.

CD stuffs

~ Though I’m still finalizing the actual zine part (which seems merely secondary), the PLOG Issue 004 CD is ready. It’s rather more impressive than the Ramshackle X-mas compilation (I did in 2001) with 22 tracks that span three countries, two continents and pretty much the gamut of recording fidelity. We recorded one of Nicole’s songs for it too and it turned out really well, which I’m quite happy about.

~ Also finished mixing/mastering the 53 Mondays album. It wasn’t as infuriating mastering 53 songs from 53 sessions as I expected. I got it done in two only sessions. As oposed to Crushed which took me about two weeks and a dozen CD-Rs to get seven songs to sound roughly like they belonged together and in the right order. Which I never really did.

Doppelgangers I have seen in Toronto:

  • 50 year old Mel Mundell
  • Emo/Goth Tanner Mat
  • Urban/Hip-Hop Ken McLeod
  • Kai Davises galore
  • Black Sandeep

Apparently Nicole saw an East Indian me.

Rounding up, rounding down

January 1, 2008

~ Yesterday was New Year’s Eve. We drank expensive champagne. I wrote the 53rd song in my series of songs written/recorded on mondays for my 53 Mondays album. Which I hope to have ready for February release. Assuming I can master it and get the 20-page booklet finished by then. I have too much on my plate right now. Meant to launch the Pandanoids site today but that isn’t near happening.

~ Starting off the year by stealing quizzes. 2008 = lazy.
