Dams-nation

~ Went down to Victoria for Ann Dams birthday party yesterday. It was a pretty good party. I met a Chinese guy named Ming who tricked me into thinking he was from Nunavut and made me feel guilty for asking him if he was from Japan. Ann filled me in on his deal this morning, it seems this is standard game at parties. I also met a fellow Philly Joe Chambers fan who I may jam with at some point.

Then I got really drunk and punched Chris Clark in the face really hard. His head snapped back and slammed into the cupboard which made a really loud noise and everyone came running. I think I was fairly a gentleman about it though. I gave him three warnings, which he ignored, and then I took his wine glass out of his hand before clocking him and then handed it back directly after. Still, it was really embarrassing to lose control like that and I’m rather ashamed. At the time it seemed like he deserved it, and it felt really satisfying to do, but in the morning it was all just really stupid and regrettable. He disappeared shortly after the punch and we hope he made it home okay.

We went to DeDutch for breakfast where I had the saltiest beef dip on the planet which I foolishly thought would be a great hang-over cure. Ken had an omlet he described at a “kitchen sponge with corn” and the girls had tasty-looking panacokes.

**EDIT**
I just want to point out, as there seems to be some confusion, that I regret the punch and feel very remorseful about it. I was immediately ashamed and embarrassed by my action and I am very sorry Chris left the party before I could apologize in person as I would have liked to.

    Wow!!!
I guess we can add violent to the list of words to describe you with.
That seems very out of character for you.

I must say I was shocked to read that! Well, not so much Chris Clark getting punched in the face, I’d be more surprised if that didn’t happen all the time, but Jakob of all people! If it brought you to that he must’ve deserved two punches to the head from a less somber person.

He was just saying stuff that bothered me. Not really anythign out of the ordinary. Not really deserving of a punch to the face.

  8. mrdapper says:

Somebody did choose ‘violent’ and I was like “Bwwhaat?” But i guess they were right.

  9. mrdapper says:

I was a little shocked to do it. It was out of line.

i’ve always wanted to punch that kid in the face.
from the first time i ever laid eyes on him.

    • mrdapper says:

It was still wrong, Nathan, still wrong.

      • nathandrama says:

        i know.
i’m not saying it wasn’t wrong.
i’m not saying it was either.
just saying i always wanted to and could never bring myself to do it.
it would take an awful lot for me to actually punch someone.
i may be slightly jealous. even though punching people is almost always wrong.

I don’t know Chris that well but I can’t imagine that he said anything worse than what I say on a regular basis.

    Wait, I take that back.

Sandeep – What I dont get is that you seem more and more proud of that fact all the time.

“That’s so Nanaimo of you.” – sound familiar?

  19. Anonymous says:

are we talking about punching sandeep now? because that sounds good

    odb

  20. newcleus says:

Some people choose to hide from who they are, others embrace.

  21. newcleus says:

You’re more than welcome to try.

  22. bootybrown says:

Well at least you’re honest about hiding from who you really are. 😉

  23. newcleus says:

😉 – god that was a quick reply. Weren’t we just talking a few minutes ago? Like whoa.

  24. bootybrown says:

Sitting in this booth doesn’t demand much of my attention!

  25. newcleus says:

    Don’t I know it brother 😀

  26. charenton_ says:

    Jake, you’re my hero.

    Jake, you’re my hero.

  28. mrdapper says:

    actually, in part yes.

  29. dorothypoo says:

wow….i reeeeeeeally hope that doesn’t mean he’s STILL shit talking me….

i’m actually quite surprised Ken hasn’t pounced on him yet

you though….you’re like a tiny cuddly baby rabbit….your fist must have just felt like a soft little fury paw….yes definetely…

  30. mrdapper says:

Then you should figure out a way to come to dinner.

  31. mrdapper says:

It was still wrong, Nathan, still wrong.

  32. mrdapper says:

Wow, even when I’m defending your honour you find a way to insult me.

  33. mrdapper says:

A true gentleman would have bought him breakfast.

  34. mrdapper says:

For my taste in jazz drummers? Yes. Philly Joe is the bomb.

  35. johnnysega says:

Oh yah. Jake – this was the best story I have read in a long time. I’m not a violent person, but I do think the time comes sometimes when you just have to give someone a smack. That being said, dont be offended if I wince every time I see you raise your hand.

  37. johnnysega says:

What does that mean, exactly, in terms of who you feel you really are? Why would you take pride in saying things that anger people?

  38. fragilelily says:

    Applause!
This is why I love you Dave.

  39. mrdapper says:

Think of it as a warning next time there’s last minute changes to a NAC brochure. 🙂

  40. mrdapper says:

yeah, it’s been years since you’ve been that obnoxious. i did offer Ken 20 bucks to clock you a legion show once. but Jack stopped him before he could get to you.

  41. mrdapper says:

i don’t know what’s more disturbing. the amount of high-fives i’ve gotten for this post or the fact it seems to have spawned a sandeep lynching.

  42. bootybrown says:

Yeah, being easily offended by things not even meant to be offensive doesn’t jive with an abrasive personality. But it does make things interesting. Case in point: This LJ entry!

  43. nathandrama says:

  44. kenholiday says:

i like chris. punching is stupid, if you wanna actually hurt someone you just make an innocent comment that you know they’ll read something else into.

  45. dorothypoo says:

    is that directed at me?
    i know you like chris?
you’re just violent sometimes when your hammer smashed

i dont think ill be able to believe jake punched him unless i saw it with my own

and why are you so NOT remorseful jake?
do you really not feel bad about it?
    chris aint so bad….anymore…is he?

  46. mrdapper says:

I totally feel bad about it. It’s a struggle though, because people keep telling me not to. But I couldn’t even sleep that night I felt so bad about it.

  47. mrdapper says:

Hurting people in general is stupid no matter what the delivery method.

  48. kenholiday says:

thats because those people didn’t do it.
people like to hear about people being hurt, whether they like them or not, when they’re removed from the situation. people are fucked.

  49. kenholiday says:

no, it wasn’t directed at you. your pretty direct with your comments.

  50. kenholiday says:

true, but people break fingers and get misshapen knuckles from punching.

  51. newcleus says:

    That would’ve been ironic.

  52. newcleus says:

I didn’t realize I had to explain my actions to you.

  53. mrdapper says:

that’s a delightfully shallow reason for a policy of non-violence.

  54. mrdapper says:

I won’t argue that. I’ve said it for years.
